Postal Service Announces New ZIP Code in South Jordan

May 22, 2015 04:42PM ● By Bryan Scott

The Postal Service announced today the addition of a new ZIP Code in South Jordan that will become effective July 1, 2015, and affect 8,200 delivery addresses.

The existing 84095 ZIP Code area in South Jordan is being split north to south along the Bangerter Highway, with all addresses west of the Highway being assigned the new 84009 ZIP Code and all addresses east of the Highway remaining in the 84095 ZIP Code area (see map below).

Beginning tomorrow (Saturday, May 23), postal customers affected by this change are being notified by mail. Mail for both ZIP Codes will continue to be delivered out of the South Jordan Post Office at 10102 South Redwood Rd.

“The tremendous growth in these areas made a new ZIP Code necessary,” said USPS District Manager Jimmy Wolf. “The new ZIP Code will ensure mail in the area continues to be sorted and delivered efficiently while helping to keep postage affordable and service quality high.”

Residents are being asked to use the new 84009 ZIP Code beginning July 1, 2015, and to notify correspondents of their new mailing address as soon as possible. There will be a one-year grace period in which mail addressed with the old ZIP Code will still be processed and delivered.

“We know that a new ZIP Code can be an inconvenience to our customers, but we will do our best to make this a smooth and easy transition,” said Wolf. “Our Business Service Network, Business Mail Units and Account Managers will also work at notifying major business mailers, municipalities, banks, utility and credit card companies of the new ZIP Code. The Postal Service will ensure delivery of our customers’ mail with the old ZIP Code for a period of one year. That will give our customers time to notify correspondents of their new mailing address.”

In addition to the affected residents receiving letters notifying them of the change, delivery area maps for the new ZIP Codes will be posted in the South Jordan Post Office.
