Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation offered conflicting stories and misinformation about the county's recreation centers.

Participants on leagues through Marv Jenson Recreation Center will be seen in uniforms typically associated with Major League Baseball and the National Football League. The kids love it so much, many have made requests to play on certain teams, a program coordinator said.

That program coordinator said that there is an effort to accommodate a kids’ wish to play on a certain team. More information was given as well just about the professional-looking uniforms.

When the program coordinator forwarded the call to a supervisor, the request was made for The South Jordan Journal to be in touch with Callie Birdsall, Communications and Public Relations Manager for Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation. The program coordinator had also indicated that photos were a possibility for a story.

When Birdsall was asked about photos, she said that she would call back. When she did, she unexpectedly said that it was the JL Sorensen Recreation Center -- not Marv Jenson -- that was doing the jerseys, and that making the kids look like the pros it was an “experiment.” Birdsall added that the county does a Salt Lake Bees program and that the “experiment” was “not sanctioned through the professional organizations.”

This came after Birdsall said that most of the recreation centers in Salt Lake County do the uniform program. Also, the supervisor said that a few recreation centers do the same thing.

The following business day, the South Jordan Journal spoke with Birdsall again about photos. She said that she would be in touch. She never was.

Birdsall calls herself an “evil genius” on Twitter.
