Bill Gates. Steve Wozniak. Steve Young. Mitt Romney. Orrin Hatch. Eric Schmidt. Cindy Crawford.

David Bradford dropped all of those names Sept. 3 at StartFEST, outlining eight lessons learned in business while working with influential people like them.

The executive chairman at South Jordan-based HireVue has held leadership positions at 11 organizations over 30 years, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is currently the FluentWorlds board chairman and a University of Utah professor.

From Bill Gates, he learned about surrounding yourself with smart people.

From Steve Wozniak, humility and teachability.

From Steve Young, accountability.

Bradford's comments at the entrepreneurship event included "hire the smartest people" and "your character means everything."

Bradford held leadership positions at Novell, Omniture, Greenberg Taurig, Fusion-io, FundingUniverse.com, Linking Universe, Romney for President, Women's Technology Council, HireVue and Virtual Immersive Educational World.

Bradford repeated a phrase at the end of his presentation and while speaking with the South Jordan Journal.

“We need doers that do,” he said, adding later: “It was great to be affiliated with HireVue.”

Bradford was CEO of HireVue for a year-and-a-half.
