From 2013 to 2016, the Bingham volleyball team enjoyed four straight league championships in Region 3. The team moved to Region 4 in 2017, and for the next two years, the Miners fell in the standings.

Now, the Miners are back in Region 3, and they have picked up where they left off three years ago.

Bingham won its first four region contests after going 5-4 in non-league play. All four of those defeats came against talented competition in a tournament in Southern California Sept. 6 and 7. Against in-state opponents, the Miners have been unbeatable.

After opening up Region 3 action with a 3-2 win over Copper Hills on Sept. 10, Bingham reeled off three more victories, all in three-game sweeps. West, Jordan and Herriman were Bingham’s victims in the three wins. The Miners stayed on top of Region 3 in the Sept. 19 victory over Herriman by winning 25-15, 25-19, 25-20. In all, Bingham had six wins by sweep in the season’s first 13 games (as of Sept. 23).

The Miners will be aiming for their first outright region title since 2014, after sharing the Region 3 crown in 2015 and 2016, both with Brighton.

Bingham hosted Riverton on Sept. 24 before home game with Copper Hills Oct. 1. The Grizzlies are not the only team to give the Miners a close match in league play, but they were also in second place entering the week of Sept. 23.

Last season, Bingham advanced in the Class 6A state tournament to the third-place match where it lost to Copper Hills 3-2. The Miners also lost in the third-place match in 2017.
