South Jordan Middle students to honor military with Veterans’ Day Salute

Veterans Day will mark the return of South Jordan Middle School’s Veterans Day Salute, that was last held before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our school had no live concerts or performances from spring 2020 through 2021,” South Jordan Middle choir and theater teacher Shawn Kidd said. “We’re excited to be able to do the Veterans Day Salute.”

The 15-minute tribute sung by the 69 members of the eighth-grade Chamber Choir and ninth-grade Concert Choir will be held at 9:30 a.m., Nov. 11, in the school’s kiva, 10245 S. 2700 West.

Kidd, whose father served in the Air Force and brother is on active duty in the same service, likes that the students are able to be a part of the celebration.

“The kids prepare the national anthem, sing “My Country Tis of Thee” and the ‘Armed Forces Medley,’” he said. “We recognize those in the audience who served in each of the branches of the military and it's a brief thing that we do in the morning, but it’s important for the kids to understand and recognize those wh
