South Jordan held a well-attended Spring Spectacular on April 18 at East River Front Park. This event was a celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day and reflected what South Jordan residents have said matters most: conservation, reducing waste and maintaining beautiful parks and trees. With those matters in mind, residents were invited to experience a fresh take on this well-loved yearly tradition.
“This year’s Spring Spectacular was thoughtfully redesigned based on community priorities,” Events Coordinator Natalie Domino said. “We’ve created an event that is not only fun and family-friendly, but also reflects our shared values around sustainability, accessibility and caring for our community spaces.”
South Jordan planners were careful to include all those with special needs. The layout prioritized accessibility and inclusion. Pathways throughout the event were wheelchair accessible, and activities were spread out to provide quieter spaces for individuals with sensory sensitivities. These customizations were provided while still offering access to high-energy entertainment areas.
South Jordan City’s reimagined Spring Spectacular was an event commemorating both Earth Day and Arbor Day. Earth Day was founded in 1970 due to growing concern over pollution and now encourages efforts to promote a healthier environment. Arbor Day was proposed in 1872 in an effort to plant trees on treeless prairie plains. Well over a century later, South Jordan is designated as an official Tree City.
South Jordan gave away 250 tree saplings in honor of America’s 250th birthday this year. Families, couples and individuals interested in supporting these environmental pursuits were seen taking their very own trees.
The attendees explored the activities at their own pace to enjoy treats and a focus on fun and sustainability. Face painting was offered for the young and old. Tents were filled with unique products offered by artisan vendors. Enjoyable and educational activities kept the group intrigued. Local beekeepers shared what they do to care for their little honey makers. Master Gardeners were there to inform those interested in caring for their plants. A plant clipping exchange was organized for those wanting or needing fresh sprigs of interesting specimens.
The fun exhibits started with a high-flying dunk team which kept everyone’s eyes glued on their flips, passes and dunks propelled by a set of trampolines. A friendly match of safe dart throws kept a competition going. A baby animal petting zoo kept the younger visitors enraptured. The 2026 Spring Spectacular offered a variety of interactive, enjoyable and educational experiences.
Up next for the city is the annual SoJo Summerfest 2026. The festival is June 2-6. The first event is the free parade preview that includes a kite festival and a Gale Museum craft. Festival events continue with golf at Mulligans, a root beer garden, chalk art, food trucks, vendor market, musical festival and fireworks. View the SoJo Summerfest Booklet (PDF) for details.
