This will be the first time since it started six years ago that the exhibit, seen here from previous 9/11 project sites, is coming to the Salt Lake Valley–setting up in South Jordan. The exhibit will come to South Jordan on Sept. 10-14 this year. (Photo courtesy Major Brent Taylor Foundation)

It’s been 25 years since that fateful day on Sept. 11, 2001, when the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania changed the world forever. To honor and remember the anniversary of that date, the 9/11 Project sponsored by the Major Brent Taylor Foundation will bring its free immersive museum to Salt Lake County for the first time.

It will be held Sept. 10-14 at the Bastian Agricultural Center in South Jordan, at 2100 W. 11400 South. Major Brent Taylor was a member of the Army National Guard and served as mayor of North Ogden. While on his second tour in Afghanistan, he was killed in action. His wife Jennie Taylor created the Major Brent Taylor Foundation less than two years later to help students and families learn principles of service, leadership and sacrifice, and to inspire others.

Jennie Taylor met with a large number of friends and supporters in South Jordan on May 7 to help with planning and organizing for this commemorative event, which coincides this year with the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration. All ages are invited to the event with free admission, and organizers will coordinate field trips for schools and local groups.

At the exhibit, an immersive museum experience will chronicle the events of Sept. 11 through powerful visuals, artifacts and first-hand accounts. This self-guided experience allows attendees to explore the timeline of that fateful day, understand the heroic actions of first responders and reflect on the lasting impact of 9/11.

The Community Resource Fair helps connect with local organizations, first responders and service groups that make a difference every day. The Community Resource Fair provides an opportunity to learn about civic engagement and service organizations, discover volunteer opportunities to give back to the community and meet veterans, firefighters, police officers and emergency personnel who serve and protect.

One of the most popular exhibits is Touch-a Truck, where attendees can get up close with military, fire, police and emergency response vehicles. They can explore the vehicles that will include Police and SWAT, ambulances and emergency medical units, fire trucks and rescue equipment, and military vehicles and gear.

It’s a tremendous undertaking, with committees set up for fundraising, volunteering, school and community field trips, faith community services, hospitality, photography/videography, pre-build and takedown, transportation and more. There is always a need for sponsorships and more volunteer opportunities. Information is available online at majorbrenttaylor.com
